The praying cat

Kaitlyn was the naughty cat who wouldn’t help make the bread for The Little Red Hen. Click image to enlarge.

Excitement built as excitement does and after a week it had become tangible, electric even. There was no way that Kaitlyn could get to sleep last night. Even Liezl tossed and turned. You see Kaitlyn had her first school play in the morning and to say she was enthusiastic was an understatement of note.

Now if you’re a parent you’d know that these things don’t just happen. The planning and preparation had been going on for a while and so had the practicing. Most nights through September Liezl and I have been subjected to renditions of songs and actions and lines. Practice, practice and more practice. By this morning I was sure that there couldn’t be anything that would catch me off guard during the show.

The surprise came right at the beginning of the concert. Before an audience of upward of 200 people, Kaitlyn confidently strode up to a microphone and opened the concert in a word of prayer.

Liezl cried.

In Scripture Paul reminded Timothy of how from a young age he’d been brought up in an understanding of the way of the Lord,

14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned {them,} 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

I’ve written some of my views on children and prayer here.
