I’ve been thinking about Scriptures relating to parenting and children and teaching this week (click here and here for previous posts). I’m preaching a topical sermon on Sunday and the title is, “Parent’s responsibility to teach their children.”
Truth is I don’t particularly enjoy topical sermons or the preparation there of, much preferring to listen to and preach on a consecutive book study preached expositorily (um, any idea how to spell this correctly?). But we’re working through a paradigm shift at the chapel where I worship and so we’ve been preaching on Sunday School, children and the church.
As I’ve been preparing I’m constantly reminded of Paul’s words to Timothy:
What a weight of responsibility this teaching, preparation and study is.
Do you approach study in a diligent, studious, workmanlike way? When you measure your current knowledge of Scripture are you satisfied that you’re growing in the knowledge of Christ our Saviour? Go read Psalm 1 for the divine mix of living and swoting.
