Three things God says He hates that could land you in hot water.

God is love. Everyone knows that. I get the feeling that most people choose to know that at the expense of really knowing God. God is love to them and nothing else. A two dimensional benevolent grandfather looking down from the clouds, smiling whimsically. The Bible however paints a broader picture of God than that. So here’s Three things God says He hates that could land you in hot water.

It’s not going to be popular in our day and age to say but according to Malachi 2:16 God hates divorce:

16 “For I hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “and him who covers his garment with wrong,” says the LORD of hosts. “So take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.”

Maybe that was a rough start? So let’s look at something a bit more obvious and a bit less contentious? God hates sin. Psalm 45:7 says:

7 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of joy above Your fellows.

Well there you go. Most people can buy into that one, of course that’s mainly because everyone else is doing it.

From the verses above you can probably see that God does indeed hate. Where to from here? Last on our list this morning is people. What? Did I really just say that? Well, let’s say sinners more specifically. Even so, people! That doesn’t make sense does it? Consider Psalm 5:5:

5 “The boastful shall not stand before Thine eyes; Thou dost hate all who do iniquity,”

Wow. That’s a bitter pill to swallow isn’t it? Good news is that’s the bad news folks. Click here for the other side of the story and here for a bit more information on God and hate.

What other attributes of God do we sometimes not dwell upon? You in hot water?

  1. God does hate divorce!

    “Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery and he who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery.”
    —Jesus Christ

    Divorce + Remarriage = Adultery

    “A wife is married to her husband as long as he lives.”
    1 Corinthians 7:39

    Marriage = A Covenant Between One Man And One Woman…Until Death

    The Two Shall Become One Flesh…

    Marriage is for Life!

  2. How about Psalm 15:

    15:1 O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?
    Who shall dwell on your holy hill?

    2 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
    and speaks truth in his heart;
    3 who does not slander with his tongue
    and does no evil to his neighbor,
    nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
    4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised,
    but who honors those who fear the Lord;
    who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
    5 who does not put out his money at interest
    and does not take a bribe against the innocent.
    He who does these things shall never be moved.

    Verse 4 says to hate a person – NOT what those people do. So work that out against “love your neighbor as yourself.”
